And I’m here for the drama.

Literally. I am here in New York because of its theatre, its live entertainment. Same as a lot of people. Maybe you. For almost as long as there’s been a New York, people have been here for the drama.

New York is America’s largest platform for excellence in the performing arts; the most important engine remaining of what was once a colossal live entertainment industry — v1.0 of today’s digital entertainment industry. New York’s theatre is part of what makes the city special. Where else can you see this many actors, comedians, dancers, singers, so much razzle dazzle in so few square blocks?

Here For The Drama is a meandering tour through New York’s theatre history, with stories both legendary and forgotten, in not-at-all chronological order. It’s a place to connect with the city and the countless artists and audiences who have called it home.
